In the backdrop of the failure of Cancun Ministerial, success at the Sixth WTO Ministerial held in Hong Kong was crucial for the over overall progress of WTO’s future.149 members countries intensely debated on issues mainly relating to agriculture and Non-Agriculture Market Access. There was pressure on both sides of developed and developing countries.
However, at the end, a consensus was arrived mainly in the areas of the adoption of Swiss formula and phasing out of export subsidies in agriculture. The deal achieved at the Ministerial is viewed as a major success for taking forward Doha Development Agenda. |
